Fanfics; Gotta love ’em!

Sorry I haven’t posted anything in the last week, but I hit some kind of serious astral depression and could barely function. Seriously, all I did last week was sleep, ate very little and did dishes. That was about it. No writing at all. This blog post is the most I’ve written all week. Good thing Sithboy was at a friend’s most of the time.

So there I was, lying in bed without the passion to write. I’d like to say that all writers have days like that, but I can’t. I’ve never felt as blah as I did last Monday. Yet I wasn’t just sleeping. For some reason I was thinking; working through a story idea that came right out of left field. It was for a fanfic. I haven’t thought about doing one of those for at least six years.

Fanfics are great for beginner writers to hone their craft on. You already have a pre-existing world with characters, so all they have to do is create a story that other readers would believe could be a part of this world. It helps to understand characters, scenes and dialogue, and because they’re somewhat short, the writer learns to put together a complete story from start to finish. Very much like writing a short story, but using someone else ideas.

I stayed in bed for HOURS, running plot scenarios’ through my mind. Then, sometime around Wednesday afternoon as I was forming a more cohesive plot, I wondered about whether or not I should write this. I’m not against FanFic’s—just the opposite, but I’d decided I’d only give away my short stories. Anything else I want to make some money on. Or at least try to. Then the idea struck me; why not combine my fanfic story with my space opera? There are four books to that plot and it would spice things up quite a bit, especially as I’m adding an erotic element.

I like this idea. I like it a lot. I love the smell of a shiny project!

I just love it when that happens. I have done that a few times myself where I thought I had s whole new story but decided to incorporate it into the story I was actually writing. I found it made the story stronger every time!!! 🙂 exciting!!!!
