Mythical Wednesday: Haunted places around the world: Giles Cory’s haunting of Salem

download (1)Everyone knows the town of Salem, Mass. This small town will be forever linked to one of the more horrifying mass hysteria outbreaks known as the Salem Witch Trials. I’m not going to relate the tale because everyone knows it. I’ve seen several shows on the witch trials, and of the spiritual unrest that is the result.  One of the most haunting tails is the story of Giles Corey.

It’s interesting to note the curse against the sheriff of Salem didn’t stop with the sheriff who oversaw thegcg executions. Each and every sheriff since George Corwin has died in office due to a heart or blood ailment.

Do you think there’s something to his curse?

  1. Jayne Denker says:

“More weight!” (I don’t care if they can’t prove he actually said this–it always gives me chills.) It must be a powerful curse if all the witches in Salem can’t neutralize it. I’ve been to Salem a few times, and I’ve gotta say that city has one messy/beautiful swirling kaleidoscope of energy (from the Very Good to the Very, Very Bad). I love it!

  2. Wow! I had no idea the sheriffs since died!
