Of Writers and Prose: My Book Sales for 2014

I’ve kept track of my sales for the last couple of years, just to see what they were. It’s become easier since Smashwords broke the sales down better. I only have five books out, and it’s in a genre that isn’t very popular (non-romance paranormal/occult).

Here are my total sales for 2014.

First, we’ll do Amazon.

Over a twelve month period I had 8,498 of my books downloaded, mainly across four markets; US, United Kingdom, Australia, and Canada. Out of that number:

Total for free ebook: 7975

US – 6492 (United States)

UK – 1067 (United Kingdom)

Can – 69 (Canada)

AU – 335 (Australia)

BR – 3 (Brazil)

BRL – 9 (Belarus)

(Note: Belarus is not one of the thirteen markets listed on the Amazon site.)

This is the second year I’ve had the first book in my series perma –free. Last year I had a total of 8374 downloads of the free ebook on Amazon. Does that mean reads as well? Hardly and I don’t have any delusions that most people downloaded it because it was free.

A few things;

-the US is a large percentage of my sales, that’s not a surprise. What was a surprise was that my freebie was downloaded more in Canada on Apple than Amazon.ca. Google is a new outlet for me and most of those sales happened in the latter part of 2014. It will be interesting to see if my Canadian Google sales overtake the Canadian Amazon sales for next year. It could show what is the stronger platform up here.

-I’m getting more freebie downloads in non-English countries via Apple and Google, than from Amazon, so my books aren’t being lost in the ‘glut’ because they are being seen.

So there it is. Take from it what you want.
