Mythical Wednesday: Things you might not have known about Area 51

coollogo_com-581457As one of the most sought after places on the map for alien enthusiasts, there are a lot of things that perhaps the layman might not know about this place. Very ordinary things. Even after President Obama made a mention of it at the 2013 Kennedy Center Honours (stating that when he wanted to know what was going on at Area 51, he asked Kennedy Center Honour inductee Shirley MacLaine), and the Russian satellite that revealed the base does exits, the United States government still holds it under tight security.

Here are some interesting REAL facts about the secretive military base.

  •  -Area 51was also known as Groom Lake (the name of the dry lakebed the base was built around), Paradise Ranch, Watertown (the official name it was given in 1956, and Dreamland, after an Edgar Allen Poe poem.
  • -The nickname Dreamland was derived from an Edgar Allan Poe poem by the same name, where It admonishes thatarea51 “the traveler, traveling through it, may not-dare not, openly view it; Never its mysteries are exposed, to the weak human eye unclosed.” Seems rather appropriate.
  • -There is a hint of truth in the conspiracy theory that states the moon landing was staged at Area 51. In reality, the land rovers and support systems were tested by the astronauts at the nearby nuclear testing site.
  • -The range is used for the testing of new technologies and training operations that are critical to the effectiveness of the U.S. military and the security of the United States.

If you’d like to know more, I found these interesting facts at the link below.

Mythical Wednesday: Gold; precious metal or alien attraction?

ghostsIn the movie COWBOYS AND ALIENS (yes it’s a movie), the MC discovers that aliens are mining for gold in Arizona desert in 1873. In the movie BATTLEFIELD EARTH, the reason aliens conquered Earth is because of our gold supply.  Crazy movie plots, or could it be based of off something else?

There is a theory among some alien enthusiasts that we have been visited in the past not to be experimented on, but for our precious metal supply of gold. In ancient Egypt, gold is considered to be the ‘skin of the gods’, and was heavily associated with Ra. Only kings were allowed to adorn themselves with gold, as they were considered to be the offspring of gods. Yellow to the ancient Egyptians represent all that is eternal and indestructible, so it’s very easy to see how they would associate the metal with their deities.

In Mesopotamian mythology, there were a race of beings called the Anunnaki who came to earth and had servants called Igigi. When the Igigi revolted, the Anunnaki were forced to create a new race – Mankind. Man was to be used to do all the labour for the Anunnaki, but what exactly would this labour be? Mining?

What would they need it for?

Gold is chemically inert, which explains why it never rusts. It also happens to be an excellent conductor of heat and electricity. Something aliens might need to construct their advanced technology.

The Golden Sun Disk of Mu was said to be a ‘scientific instrument, and the secret of its power came originally out of the dim past in the time of the Elder Race.’ Here again is another reference of an older race.

Whatever the connection on thing is clear, gold is valuable commodity, whether you live on this planet, or just visiting.

Crop Formations; Alien Messages or Hoax?

crop circleI was a teenager when I first heard about this phenomenon. They enticed me, and frightened me at the same time. Were these really messages from aliens? If so, what were they trying to tell us?

Over the years the phenomenon has continued with strong arguments on both sides as to whether or not they’re real or man-made. I remember watching a show years ago about two men who claimed that the whole thing was a hoax and they were behind it, but if they were, why do these intricate designs still appear in fields all over the world? Not only that, but how can one person, or even a group of people create such beautiful and complex geometric designs?

Originally called ‘crop circles’, the name was changed as many of the formations are not circular. According to believers, these pictograms, as they’re called have been appearing all over the world. The first known account could be in the U.k during the 1700’s, based on a woodcut from 1678 that shows a field of oat stalks laid out in a circle.

While there are more skeptics than believers, the phenomenon has become very popular within the last thirty years, invoking people to create websites strictly devoted to where and when a formation appears.

So what do you think? Are these patterns in fields the result of a prank? Or do you think there could be something to these? Maybe a message we have yet to figure out how to decipher?

Mythical Wednesday: Have you ever seen a UFO?

ufoSometimes, when I look up at the sky at night, I wonder if there are beings watching us. Keeping an eye on our progress as we venture into the 21st century. I’ve never had any kind of UFO incident, but my husband did when he was a child. He was a young boy and woke up in the middle of the night. When he looked around, he saw a face staring at him through his bedroom window. It freaked him out (who wouldn’t be) and he ran into his parent’s bedroom, but was promptly shooed back into his own room. To this day, it still haunts him and he remembers it like it was yesterday.

I’ve tried to put myself in his shoes and wonder what it was like seeing some alien face staring back at me, but I think it’s one of those ‘you have to be there’ moments. It made me wonder though, why was it there? Did it try to talk to him? Did he wake up before he was abducted? All these questions and more run through my mind whenever I think of that story.

Believing in aliens is not as crazy as it used to be, and as more people reveal they’ve had some kind of UFO experience, it’s becoming a more acceptable train of thought. As this article states, ‘More than a third of people in the U.S. believe aliens exist – and more than 10 per cent of the population believes they have seen an alien ship in the sky.’

I think it would be arrogant of us to think we are the only intelligent species in the Universe, and I have to wonder, as I look up at all those stars, what do they think of us? The fact they haven’t revealed themselves is telling in so many ways.

Mythical Wednesday: Unidentified Flying Objects – Real or Hoax?

I stumbled across this article a while back and thought it was rather interesting:

http://www.foxnews.com/scitech/2012/06/28/one-third-americans-believe-in-ufos-survey-says/

Now I don’t know about you, but I’ve believed in UFO’s since the first time I heard of them. I guess it’s one of the main reasons I like science fiction. My belief was backed up by the idea that we can’t be alone in a galaxy/universe; it just doesn’t make sense and it’s very arrogant to think we are the only intelligent life form, and I use that word sparingly.

Perhaps the reason these alien beings haven’t revealed themselves is because as a society, we are still pretty primitive. Considering we have some serious social problems (putting a game ahead of a child’s welfare), we are not mature enough as a race to even venture out past our own moon. We are still in our infancy as a race. Sure, we’ve made some incredible technological advances in the past three hundred years, but our attitude towards other people hasn’t advanced as much. How are we to accept beings from another world, when we don’t even accept all of humanity?

We falsely believe Humans are at the top of the intelligence food chain and to think that there could be something smarter out there is a frightening thought. If they’re smarter and hiding—they’re up to something. Maybe they’re going to take over the planet and enslave all of mankind. Maybe they’re going to kill us all and take our resources. Maybe they’re going to [fill in the blank]. Maybe they’re waiting for us to get our shit together so we can join the rest of the universal society, and not be that idiot pig playing in a mud puddle and rolling around in our own crap.

Sorry, didn’t mean to turn this into a rant.

So what do you think? Are we alone or not?
